Toyota took the lead as Japanese automakers entered the US market aggressively (and unexpectedly) in the 1970s.<\/span><\/h5><h5><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The cars are large, heavy and expensive to mass transport.<\/span><\/h5><h5><span style=\"color: #000080;\">This is one of the reasons why the US market was surprised when Toyota started selling Japanese cars in the US at a lower price than its competitors.<\/span><\/h5><h5><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The automotive industry was a major contributor to the US economy, so one of the government&#8217;s first responses was to impose protected trade-based taxes on all imported cars.<\/span><\/h5><h5><span style=\"color: #000080;\">But the tactics failed.<\/span><\/h5><h5><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Within a few years, Toyota succeeded in establishing manufacturing in US soil, eliminating the need to pay one of the expensive new import taxes.<\/span><\/h5>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-53714c9 exad-sticky-section-no exad-glass-effect-no elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"53714c9\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h5><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Initially, US car makers weren&#8217;t too worried about Toyota moving production to the United States because they thought that the cost of Japanese car makers would certainly be about the same as the cost of local car companies.<\/span><\/h5><h5><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Well, that didn&#8217;t happen.<\/span><\/h5><h5><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Toyota continued its cost leadership strategy.<\/span><\/h5><h5><span style=\"color: #000080;\">It was still making cars for much less money than US companies could.<\/span><\/h5><h5><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Their sophisticated production process was very efficient and lean, and they were able to beat US car makers in their own games.<\/span><\/h5><h5><span style=\"color: #000080;\">You may have heard the term Kaizen or &#8220;continuous improvement&#8221;.<\/span><\/h5><h5><span style=\"color: #000080;\">In the manufacturing industry, Toyota is almost synonymous with this term.<\/span><\/h5><h5><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Toyota has been studying the production lines of American car makers like Ford for years.<\/span><\/h5>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-aabce2f exad-sticky-section-no exad-glass-effect-no elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"aabce2f\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h5><span style=\"color: #000080;\">They knew that the US automobile industry was more advanced and efficient than the Japanese industry.<\/span><\/h5><h5><span style=\"color: #000080;\">So they decided to be patient.<\/span><\/h5><h5><span style=\"color: #000080;\">They studied their competitors and tried to imitate what Americans did very well.<\/span><\/h5><h5><span style=\"color: #000080;\">They combined these processes with their strengths and came up with something even better.<\/span><\/h5><h5><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Toyota has proven that knowing your weaknesses can be the key to success-and one of the best business strategies you can ever use.<\/span><\/h5><h5><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Not only that.<\/span><\/h5><h5><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Name one of Toyota&#8217;s famous executives.
