Difference between an operations manager and a strategic manager \n<\/h3>\n
So, What is really the difference between an operations manager and a strategic manager?<\/h5>\n
By now, you should be able to see the difference but we can put it in simpler words. Strategic managers work with the vision and the future, it’s about where an organisation wishes to be in a long-term period and the activities it needs to do to reach there while operations managers work with the rest of the factors, they deal with the current real obstacles and planning and it’s usually in shorter terms than the strategic manager.<\/h5>\n
Strategic management and operational management are different and equally important aspects of the business. They’re separate, but still related processes that work in parallel with each other. Each process can run on its own and poorly run companies, sometimes do run on their own without dedicated professionals for it.<\/h5>\n
In corporate management, both processes were intended to function on a relatively equal basis in order for the company to function well as a whole.<\/h5>\n
For board directors and others that don’t understand each process well, it can be confusing to know the difference and focus on both of them at the same time, causing the dividing lines to become blurred and many distractions can occur.<\/h5>\n
More importantly, there can be tensions between them and it takes skilled managers to be able to move past the differences and focus on their dedicated goals with collaboration.<\/h5>\n
When each process functions well, they will highlight the roles that managers can play in each aspect of the business growth and stability and they will help leaders to identify strategic opportunities together.<\/h5>\n
In this way, board directors and managers bring both processes together with the goal of driving better competition and improved business performance.<\/h5>\n
Leaders that make the mistake of putting too much attention into strategic planning alone or operations only full focus, put the whole organisation at risk because one process works harder than the other one and eventually you’ll see a deficit in one of them.<\/h5>\n
With strategic planning vs. operational planning, the organisation may need to contribute more time and attention to one process or the other at various times, but overall, the time and attention for each should be fairly equal.<\/h5>\n
