Kodak is known for photography. Their print processing methods were global and technologies ahead of the competition. However, the company ultimately came crashing down because it didn’t change their strategy with the market, let’s look at what happened: Kodak , as we know it today, was founded in the year 1888 by George Eastman as ‘The Eastman Kodak Company.<\/h5>\n
It was the most famous name in the world of photography and videography in the 20th century. Kodak brought about a revolution in the photography and videography industries.<\/h5>\n
At the time when only huge companies could access the cameras used for recording movies, Kodak enabled the availability of cameras to every household by producing equipment that was portable and affordable which was a great success.<\/h5>\n
Kodak invented the digital camera in 1975 yet, they always promoted and focused on the Film Camera that produces a printed image.<\/h5>\n
Even though they produced a report on predicted future trends in the market, management decided that the technology wouldn’t disrupt the market so the strategic change was unnecessary. Kodak brought about a revolution in the photography and videography industries.<\/h5>\n

And because Kodak was a US-based company, they had an advantage and easily dominated the US market, they didn’t feel any threat from any competitors like Fuji Films.<\/h5>\n
They argued with Fuji Films, for almost 10 years, that the people loved the touch of the printed image, Kodak didn’t suspect that the US citizens would choose a foreign company over their company.<\/h5>\n
So Fuji Films, alongside other competitors, started focusing on growing their market share in the photography & videography industry instead of engaging in a time-wasting discussion with Kodak. And once again, Kodak wasted time promoting the use of film cameras instead of emulating its competitors.<\/h5>\n
It completely ignored the feedback from the media and the market.<\/h5>\n
Kodak tried to convince people that film cameras were better than digital cameras and lost 10 valuable years in the process.<\/h5>\n
Kodak also lost the external funding it had during that time.<\/h5>\n
People also realized that digital photography was way ahead of traditional film photography.<\/h5>\n
It was cheaper than film photography and the image quality was better.<\/h5>\n
And instead of Kodak reacting differently and pivoting the strategy by spending the remaining funds on promoting digital cameras, they instead started spending the cash on small companies’ acquisitions. By the time Kodak realized that it was falling apart, it was too late to have a strong strategy to face the plague.<\/h5>\n
They had 10 years to act, but didn’t.<\/h5>\n
