When you’re dealing with people, most assume that they are what you see from them but realistically, it’s not<\/h5>\n
Usually, you hear leaders say that they know people and understand people yet you also see many leaders who fail to reach their team because they don’t know the origin of the behavior,<\/h5>\n
They just act upon what they see and not the real identity of the person you’re dealing with<\/h5>\n
What you see from them is just the surface of who they are, the remaining character is always hidden.<\/h5>\n
Have you watched Titanic? You would be missing out if you haven’t given the fact that it’s a global cinematic masterpiece<\/h5>\n
If you haven’t allowed us to explain the idea behind it, the Titanic was a gigantic ship that sank in the ocean in 1912 when they were sailing at night and saw an iceberg, but the thing about icebergs is,<\/h5>\n
You don’t know how deep it is, they thought they can avoid it and maybe hit a small piece of it because its tip wasn’t that big but what really happened is that the iceberg was massive underneath the ocean waters which wasn’t what they expected<\/h5>\n
This is exactly what Hemingway was talking about. The theory states that you can only know 20% of a person, the remaining 80% is always hidden.<\/h5>\n
The Iceberg Principle or Iceberg Theory is a theory that suggests that we cannot see or detect most of a situation’s data. The theory, which we also call the ‘Theory of Omission’ or ‘Iceberg Model,’ applies to people, systems, and problems too. It’s a theory that suggests that aggregated data can hide information that is important for the proper evaluation of a situation.<\/h5>\n
While dealing with people, there are observables or surface knowledge and non-observables or deeper knowledge. What you see is the behaviors and practices and what people show intentionally but what really affects their behaviors and decision-making is the deeper knowledge and experiences which consists of attitudes, beliefs, values, motives, personality, and perceptions.<\/h5>\n
In simpler words, what people show is just the outer shell of them, what people really are is underneath that shell that you understand by observing and learning more about them. The strongest leaders are the ones who understand people, not the ones who have the most technical knowledge.<\/h5>\n
